The Current Government Shutdown
So how long will this shutdown last?
The longest U.S. government shutdown lasted 35 days, from December 22, 2018, to January 25, 2019. This partial shutdown occurred during the presidency of (you guessed it...) Donald Trump due to an impasse over funding for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.
Knowing the Democrats like I do, they will try to surpass this previous "record" this time. The Democrats LOVE to shut down the government under Trump, because they HATE him.
We shall see.
No Kings?
So the lefties are hitting the streets again. For a "No Kings" rally! Haha! Idiots.
“NO KINGS!” …Unless There’s Wi-Fi and Cold Brew: A Helpful Guide to America’s Latest National Tantrum
So apparently millions of Americans took to the streets recently to protest the horrifying national emergency of… someone possibly acting like a king, maybe... if you squint and are sleep deprived. There were signs, megaphones, inflatable frogs (??), and at least one guy dressed like a medieval peasant yelling “DOWN WITH THE THRONE!” while ordering a pumpkin spice latte from his phone.
Welcome to the “No Kings” protests: part political demonstration, part Renaissance Faire, part TikTok live event sponsored by oat milk.
What Were They Protesting Exactly?
Protesters say they’re tired of “authoritarianism” and don’t want a president who acts like a king. Fair enough. Nobody wants to wake up one morning and find out we’re all required to kiss a presidential ring and refer to the White House as Castle Mar-a-Lago.
But somewhere around protest #437, the messaging got a little fuzzy. One lady screamed “NO CROWNS!” while wearing a tiara that said “QUEEN OF RESISTANCE.” Another held a sign that read, “STOP FASCISM, BUT ALSO FREE COLLEGE, FREE RENT, FREE STUFF, AND TAX THE PEASANTS (EXCEPT ME).”
The Honk Heard Around the World
Car caravans drove around honking in solidarity, proving that nothing screams “We reject tyranny!” like lightly inconveniencing suburban moms trying to get to Costco.
If a king did exist, he probably would’ve decreed, “Quiet down or I’ll raise your gas prices.” But fortunately, gas prices continue to plummet, so Plan B was yelling at traffic cones.
Conservatives Watching From the Sidelines
Conservatives, a.k.a. the adults in the room, a.k.a. the responsible ones, a.k.a. the ones paying the taxes that pay for all the @#$% the left wastes money on, meanwhile, sat there with popcorn going, “So… government overreach is bad now? Because we’ve kind of been doing that for the last 20 years or so, but with fewer dragons and interpretive dance.”
They also wondered why the Left suddenly discovered that centralized power is scary only after someone they didn’t vote for sat behind the big desk. It’s almost like government overreach is only tyranny when the other team does it. Yay! That's a bingo!
Trump Responds… Because why shouldn't he?
Trump reportedly responded with his usual subtlety: posting an AI video of himself dropping brown goo (poop) on protesters from a B-52 made of gold while Lee Greenwood played in the background. In related news, the Founding Fathers are now doing 360° spins in their graves at 1000 RPM.
The Vibe
To be fair, most protests were peaceful and festive, like Comic-Con but with more chanting, and stupid signs, and fewer working shower schedules. It had big “We are outraged but still want to be home by 6 for Matlock” energy.
Things Chanted During the Protests (Probably):
-
“No thrones, No crowns, No kings—But Marxists Are OK!”
-
“Down with monarchy, up with communism!”
-
“We hate authoritarianism—Unless it's a Democrat.”
“No thrones, No crowns, No kings—But Marxists Are OK!”
“Down with monarchy, up with communism!”
“We hate authoritarianism—Unless it's a Democrat.”
Signs seen at the protest (potentially):
- "Truck Fump" (quite subtle, eh?)
- "Down With Ice, Unless its in my Latte"
- "I'm Butt-Hurt, But I'm Here"
- "Feeling Down? Call 1-800-Vote Blue"
- "I Love Sour Grapes"
So… What Now? What changed?
In short, nothing changed. Literally nothing. If the movement wants to stick around (which I hope it doesn't), someone eventually needs to say something like, “We would like clear constitutional limits on executive power, thank you.” Because right now, the message is kind of: “I saw The Handmaid’s Tale twice and now I’m emotionally exhausted by government.”
Meanwhile, conservatives are sitting there like:
“We also don’t want kings. We would just prefer it if activist committees wearing Che Guevara hoodies would stop demanding American tax-payer pay 200 billion for interpretive resistance drum circles in Haiti.”
Final Thought
Look, America doesn’t do kings. We threw British tea into a harbor, invented freedom of speech, and created the bald eagle, the only bird angry enough to symbolize pure liberty.
But if you’re gonna scream “NO KINGS!” while livestreaming on your iPhone (which is made by a $3 trillion corporate empire whose CEO practically lives in a cloud castle), maybe—just maybe—you already bent the knee to your own "king" somewhere along the way.
God bless freedom, and may all our protests remain at least two turkey legs short of full Comic-Con.
Bottom line: Trump is a our duly elected President. Not a king.

Trump's Time magazine cover debacle
